When you encounter the wood-eater in Mularn, there are also coupled ones. One Alate/Queen, and one soldier. If you go near them, only the soldier attacks.
1. Go to a coupled group of wood-eaters. One should always be a wood-eater soldier. He's aggressive towards you. The other part is neutral.
2. If you approach them, the wood-eater soldier will attack you. But the other part stays passive.
As far as I remember, coupled wood-eaters always attacked together. The neutral mob added.
Sadly again, that I don't have any evidence, so I hope, that other users may confirm this from their memories. This is not a serious problem, of course, but one that may vary from the classic experience.
