Description

Spent some time at the level 50 test dummy today testing from-stealth openers and the effect of a weapons swing speed. Testing with a Bronze Bastard sword (dps 2.7, speed 4.1) and an iron dagger (dps3.0, speed 2.3) the slower weapon incorrectly hits much harder due to its weaponspeed. I averaged +190style bonus with the bastard sword vs. +120 with the dagger. Classic Perf Artery and Backstab styles were actually calculated differently than other styled attacks, and a weapons speed should not be part of the equasion (the only exception to this is a 2h weapon, and even then it's a static bonus for using it and its speed isnt a factor.

From the DAOC Tests blog:

"Assassination styles (BS, BS2, PA) work differently than normal styles. Since these styles can only be used as an opener from stealth, these styles have had the DPS portion coded out and just add a static damage value. This allows for assassins to use fast weapons and still hit hard with their assassination styles. Furthermore, since the assassination styles add a static damage amount, faster weapons actually allow for a higher DPS than slower weapons in this case. Thus, one can debate the benefits of a slow assassination weapon versus a fast one."

Reproduction Steps

1. Create an assassin character, and spec in critical strikes to at least 21
2. Use two main-handed weapons with as similar dps as possible, with as different swing speeds as possible
3. Test from-stealth openers and compare style bonus between the two.

Intended Behavior

According to the tests, the rough calculation for from-stealth openers is as follows:

Perforate Artery 2h Cap = 75 + Critical Strike Spec * 12 + Nonstyle Cap

Perforate Artery Cap = 75 + Critical Strike Spec * 9 + Nonstyle Cap

Backstab II Cap = 45 + Critical Strike Spec * 6 + Nonstyle Cap

Backstab I Cap = ~5 + Critical Strike Spec * 14 / 3 + Nonstyle Cap

On this site, tests and FAQ written by Peter Waterman (aka Squawking Tiger), with massive collusion and feedback from Jay Ambrosini (aka Wyrd) – Jay is the originator of the formulas and concepts found

Wyrd is incredibly well known throughout the DAOC community, and his work has been published numerous times. The composite 51 assassin spec is even named after him.
