Neither as an elvish Mentalist(Lvl.30) nor as a sylvan Animist(Lvl.30) I'm able to get a tradeskill task from the spellcraft master at the beginning of spellcrafting.
1. race and class as above (to be sure)
2. learn spellcrafting
3. target spellcraft master and type "/whisper task"
...nothing happens
I'm not sure about requirements to get spellcraft tasks, but as I also made a character (celtic warden) and skilled him with tradeskill tasks (at least since skill 100 because tradeskill tasks were not implemented at the time I made him) it should be possible to get tradeskill tasks from the very beginning.
I can't link to my memories of the old days with DAoC (for goods sake!) but iirc I made a sylvan toon long ago and skilled him in spellcrafting through tasks.
