Description

On uth2.0 there is something odd about the mechanic of passive pets being engaged in combat, that doesnt fit with any of the old live quotes i´ve found.
(Even on uth1.0 the mechanic worked correctly as it should be for 1.65)

Its hard to explain but i guess the way a petclass was set to combat was different in early daocyears.

On live today aswell uth2.0 if your passive pet is getting hit means you are in combat aslong as your pet is.
Aka the Combatflag of the pet will always mirror to the petowner.

Reproduction Steps

1. Log a petclass able to cast focus damageshield(ench, caba, sm or necro )
2. Send pet into aggro mobs and activate your specfocusshield("greater aura of reverberation" for example, its in the manaspecline of enchs)
3. Deactivate your focus and set pet to passive
4. Wait 10 seconds.
5. Now after 10seconds,check if you reg power as if you were out of combat,
could you use MCL or being affected by a speedchant/song.
6. results?

Intended Behavior

Its sounds familiar with that mechanic what was proven to be correct(i could not believe^^)
https://uthgard.org/tracker/issue/1573/@/Menta_gets_speed_while_dot_is_still_ticking

(Menta casts dot, waits 10seconds and then gets speedtick by bard afaik)

Intended behavior for petclasses would be, that pet and petowner do not fully share the same combatflag.
Passive pet dealing 0 dmg(including any sort of baseDS or focusDS ) while getting hit by something shouldn´t set a combatflag for petowner, he remains as "out of combat" and could benefit from higher power-reg,mcl, speedsong, etc.

Evidence

All these quotes are from 2003-2006 and explain, that you could set pet to passive and wait 10seconds to launch MCL/pots and/or get powerticks off fop (font of power ... toa power-reg) during midfight.
MCL3 my SM doesn't run out of power either. (But I have a 10sec delay in which the pet has to be on passive before I can fire MCL), before continuing.

Don't use the base damage shield if you plan on using a pot or MCL mid pull though.

i'd say mcl because serenity wont work in combat and your not really gonna get hit thus the only thing slowing you is power.

you can wait 10 seconds out of combat for mcl or have longer breaks and let serenity kick in and regen.

MCL 2+ - if FDS is down and your pet is on passive you can use MCL after 10 seconds - I just upgraded to MCL3 because I think with all the power pool I have I can keep FDS up indefinitely with it (pending testing).

FYI, for all of above techniques, when you run OOP you must put the pet on passive and drop FDS to regain power. Chanters must NOT use their baseline castable DS on the pet, or they won't be able to take a hit from the FOP/use potions/pop MCL
You can also pop MCL when pet is on passive and focus shield is down for 10secs.
Also found patchnotes(1.70) when they changed/nerfed power-reg behaviour for pve.

http://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_Notes:_Version_1.70

"Master Level Ability Changes and Fixes

- Font of Power no longer affects targets which have been engaged in PvE combat within the last 10 seconds. The Font was having an unbalancing effect on PvE combat. After much discussion and debate, we decided to leave the Font itself alone and make it work without restriction in RvR, and add a small restriction for PvE (rather than reduce its effectiveness or otherwise reduce its usefulness in RvR with an across-the-board change)."

Aswell as these changed made to pets with patch 1.70

"- Melee damage done by a pet (controlled or otherwise) now reports back to the pet owner on the Attacks/Other channel.

- Damage done to an actively controlled pet now reports back to the pet owner on the Attacks/Other channel.

- Damage shield spells and damage add spells on pets now reports damage dealt to the pet's owner when applicable."

So until 1.70 pets didnt report any of their own actions or taken dmg by enemy to their petowners combatchat.
Thats a good hint that petowners and pet had own not fully shared combatflags, since you didnt really know what your pet was doing !

And as sideeffects of FOP- and petchanges petclasses also lost their ability to use mcl when waiting 10seconds and have pet on passive. RA got revamped several times aswell, maybe a change in mcl itself made a change. But thats nearly impossible to retest
